Is the Coop predator resistant?

Both the Coop and Attached Run are built to withstand most pesky predators and other potential dangers to your flock. We labored over the design, construction and strength of both and then paired them with our smart technology (the Roost and Run Cams, Automatic Door, and Albert Eggstein) to ultimately create the safest and most reliable chicken coop on the market for not only keeping predators out, but also giving you the peace of mind they don't even stand a chance.

Do you offer more than one size of the Coop?

Today, we are only offering the Coop in one size. We hope to offer varying sizes for larger, growing flocks in the near future!

Is the Coop's door automated?

At the most basic level, the Coop's Automatic Door uses a light sensor to automatically open the door at sunrise and close the door at sunset. But with Albert Eggstein around, you also have the ability to set your own schedules and timing for open and close. Check out yourDoor manualfor more information on setting a unique schedule.

Is the Coop weather resistant in both heat and cold?

Very! The combination of the materials we use and how we manufacture the Coop lends to incredible durability in both extreme heat and cold. In the summer months, our UV-resistant panels reflect the sun while our intelligent ventilation keeps air moving throughout the Coop, keeping your chickens cool. In the winter months, our rotomolded panels provide just the right amount of insulation, keeping your chickens warm.

What does the Coop come with?

Every Coop order comes with:

  • The Coop
  • Attached Run and Base
  • Roost Cam & Run Cam
  • Automatic Door

Is the Coop hard to set up?

We shouldn't be making chicken coops if it is! But seriously, we put a ton of thought into the Coop's design and specifically around set up. It is incredibly easy all the way from physical set up, to connecting it to the Coop App. Your Coop will come with printed and video instructions for set up, and we will be at the ready to help you should you need it!

Is the Coop mite resistant?

Yes, the Coop is mite resistant! Unlike traditional coops made with wood that breaks down over time, the Coop's construction and materials create a very inhospitable environment for pests like red mites.

Do you offer financing options for the Coop?

Yes, we offer financing through Affirm!

What WiFi range and speed is needed for the Coop?

We recommend your Coop being within 100-150 feet of a minimum 2.4GHz network. With the right environment and no barrier overload between the Coop and your router, the Roost and Run Cams will have no issue connecting/remaining connected to your existing network should the Coop be placed in a location where your phone is also able to maintain connection.

What is the Coop made of?

The Coop structure is made of double-walled, recyclable plastic and manufactured through a process called rotational molding. The result is an incredibly strong chicken coop made to stand the test of time...and your flock.

How does the coop's ventilation work?

The coop has specially designed vents in the windows, ceiling, and floor that work together with the door (both while closed and open) to create natural convection and provide the following airflow volumes (CFM) and air changes per hour (ACH):

Changing Your Auto Door Batteries

Your Automatic Coop Door plays a vital role in keeping your flock safe, but even the hardest workers need a little care now and then! If your door has been acting up, it might be time for a battery check. To keep things running smoothly, we recommend replacing the batteries every six to eight months—or sooner if temperatures take a sharp dive. A quick battery swap can help your coop door stay dependable no matter the season!

3 Signs It’s Time to Swap the Batteries

Delayed or Inconsistent Operation

If your door is opening or closing at odd times or in odd sequences, low batteries could be the cause.

Blinking

A red blinking light signals your door needs new batteries ASAP.

Quick Temperature Drops

Cold weather drains batteries faster—be prepared to swap them more frequently in winter.

How to Replace the Batteries

  • Remove the 4 screws securing the black sensor box to the door.
  • Swap out the 2 AA batteries with fresh alkaline batteries (avoid rechargeables).
  • Secure the sensor box and test your door. (Any settings made before battery swap will need to be reapplied)

Chicken Keeping

Preventing Digging Predators

For some of you, digging predators can pose a meaningful threat to the flock.

This usually happens in the evening. At a late hour, chickens should be in the coop with the automatic door closed, protecting them from the digging danger. There's no way for predators to get into the coop.

Our AI trained computer vision will suggest if the automatic door is opened outside of normal hours, allowing you to react accordingly. For example, cameras feature an alert that you can turn on that will produce sound in addition to light in order to scare off the predator.

If that happened to be while you are away, you may consider adding an additional layer of protection for your chickens. Get the wire cloth that can be laid on the ground and place the Coop and run on top of it. Adding plastic zip ties to connect wire cloth to the run frame can be a good idea. An example of such wire cloth can be found here.

How much does weather impact egg laying?

The decrease in daylight, and colder temps can slow down or stop egg production for stints of time during the winter month. Here are some of the factors that can contribute to watch out for in the cold months, but it is of course unique to each flock.

Temperature: Extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, can affect egg production. Hens are sensitive to temperature changes, and high temperatures, in particular, can reduce egg laying. Heat stress can lead to decreased feed intake, which in turn affects egg development and laying.

Lighting Conditions: Daylight length influences the reproductive cycle of hens. Shorter days, typically during the winter months, can lead to a decrease in egg production. Artificial lighting is often used to simulate longer daylight hours and maintain consistent egg production throughout the year.

Humidity: High humidity levels can contribute to heat stress in hens, especially in combination with high temperatures. Adequate ventilation is crucial to maintain optimal conditions within the hen house.

Seasonal Changes: Seasonal variations can affect egg production. Winter, with its shorter days and colder temperatures, tends to result in a decline in egg laying. In contrast, spring and summer, with longer days and warmer temperatures, are generally more conducive to increased egg production.

Nutrition: Weather conditions can impact the availability and quality of forage and insects that hens consume. Adverse weather may limit access to natural food sources, affecting the hens' nutrition and subsequently, egg production.

Stress and Comfort: Severe weather events such as storms or extreme cold can stress hens, leading to a temporary decline in egg production. Providing a comfortable and stress-free environment is essential for consistent egg laying.

Disease Risk: Certain weather conditions, such as high humidity, can create an environment conducive to the growth of pathogens. This increased disease risk can impact the health of the hens and, consequently, their egg production.

Baby Chicks in the Mail?! Here's What To Expect

Bringing home baby chicks is an exciting adventure, and if you’re new to this experience, you’re in for a delightful journey filled with joy and a bit of learning. Here’s a guide to help you know what to expect when ordering your new feathered friends online from My Pet Chicken, along with some important tips to ensure a smooth experience.

The Ordering Process

When you order baby chicks from My Pet Chicken, you have the option to choose from a variety of breeds, each with its own unique characteristics. The minimum order is as few as three chicks, which is great for those starting small. During the warmer months (April through November), the minimum is three chicks, but during the colder months (December through March), the minimum increases to eight to ensure they stay warm during shipping.

Shipping and Arrival

Your chicks will be shipped via USPS. Orders with 15 or more chicks are shipped using USPS Priority Mail, while smaller orders use USPS Express Mail. This method ensures your chicks arrive as quickly and safely as possible.

Chicks are shipped when they are one day old because they can survive up to 72 hours after hatching without food and water, thanks to the nutrients absorbed from their yolk sacs.

What to Do When Your Chicks Arrive

Pickup: You’ll be notified by the post office when your chicks arrive. It’s best to pick them up as soon as possible to minimize their time in transit.

Inspection: Carefully open the box and inspect the chicks. It's recommended not to open the box in front of young children, just in case there are any losses during transit, which can occasionally happen. This can be distressing, but it’s a reality of shipping live animals.

Immediate Care: Once home, place the chicks in a pre-warmed brooder with a temperature of about 95°F. Provide them with fresh water (with added vitamins and electrolytes) and starter feed immediately.

Possible Issues

Bad Shipments: Occasionally, chicks might arrive weak or not survive the journey. This is relatively rare, but it’s important to be prepared. My Pet Chicken guarantees live arrival, so contact them if you encounter any issues.

Health Checks: Monitor the chicks closely for the first few days. Healthy chicks should be active and chirping. If you notice any lethargy or signs of illness, take action immediately by consulting resources or contacting customer support at My Pet Chicken.

The Joys of Raising Baby Chicks

Despite the potential challenges, raising baby chicks is incredibly rewarding! They are adorable and watching them grow and develop personalities is a delightful experience. They require a lot of attention and care, especially in the first few weeks, but the bond you’ll form with them is worth every moment.

Tips for First-Time Owners

Setup: Have your brooder, heat lamp, and all supplies ready before the chicks arrive.  Check out our New Chick Checklist for a full rundown.

Monitoring: Check on your chicks frequently throughout the day to ensure they are warm, fed, and hydrated.

Learning: Take advantage of the wealth of resources available on My Pet Chicken’s website, including their care guides and FAQs.

Community: You're not alone in this journey! Join our Chick Chat Club for Newbies! Ran by chicken experts, you can get real time answers on any and all flock care questions.

Bringing baby chicks into your home can be a wonderful experience filled with learning and joy. With a bit of preparation and care, you’ll be well on your way to raising a happy, healthy flock. Happy chick-keeping!

3 Tips for Keeping Your Flock Warm in The Winter

Winter weather can be tough on chickens, but with the right strategies, you can keep your flock happy and comfortable even during the coldest months. Your Smart Coop, made from double-walled MDPE plastic, offers excellent insulation—keeping the coop 15–20 degrees warmer in winter (and cooler in summer). However, a little extra help is always appreciated by happy hens!

Here are three practical tips to ensure your flock stays cozy and productive this winter.

1. Deep Bedding for Warmth

The deep bedding method is a fantastic way to provide natural insulation in your coop. Here’s how:

  • Layer it up: Start with a thick base of straw or shavings, at least 4–6 inches deep, covering the floor of your coop.
  • Let it compost: As the bedding accumulates and decomposes over time, it generates gentle heat, creating a warm microclimate for your flock.
  • Keep it dry: Regularly add fresh bedding to absorb moisture and prevent odors.

This simple method not only keeps your chickens cozy but also reduces the need for frequent cleaning during colder months.

2. Protect Their Water

Freezing water can be a big challenge in winter, but hydration is crucial for your flock’s health.

  • Position strategically: Place your waterer near the CoopCam to monitor for freezing throughout the day.
  • Use lukewarm water: Refill the waterer with warm water in the morning and evening to slow freezing.

3. Cold-Weather Snacks

Providing high-energy treats helps your chickens generate body heat and stay warm.

  • Best winter snacks: Warm oatmeal, cracked corn, and nutrient-rich table scraps like cooked vegetables are excellent options.
  • Timing is key: Offer these treats in the late afternoon to help your flock stay warm through the chilly night.

Additional Winter Helpers

All-Weather Tarp for the Run

Your Smart Coop’s All-Weather Tarp provides extra protection against harsh winds and snow in the run. It’s easy to install and creates a safer, more comfortable outdoor space for your chickens during the winter months.

Recommended Heater

If you’re looking for additional warmth inside the coop, we recommend the Enhon Chicken Coop Heater.

  • Why we love it: This heater is safe, space-efficient, and doesn’t directly touch anything, reducing the risk of fire compared to heat lamps or panels.
  • How to use: Hang it from the roof of your coop just like your solar panel for optimal safety and warmth.

Here's to happy hens all winter long!

EggsteinAI

What is SOS Mode?

SOS Mode is a one-tap setting in the Coop App just for you and your flock in the event of a predator emergency! Should you ever need it, SOS Mode allows you to illuminate both camera lights, play the sound of barking dog from their speakers, and instantly close the Automatic Door if it is open, all at the same time. You will have the option to automate SOS Mode with Albert Eggstein as well.

What makes the Coop smart?

The Coop is outfitted with two high-quality, smart security cameras that we have adapted and integrated to specifically work towards making your backyard chicken farming journey easier. Additionally, the Coop comes with an automatic door that can be timed/scheduled, but also manually overridden in the Coop App. And behind it all lies the brain of the Coop, or as we like to call him, Albert Eggstein. Constantly monitoring your flock and their surroundings, Albert is monitoring, recording, and notifying you of the events that mean the most for your and your flock.

How is the Automatic Door smart?

Through some pretty nifty engineering between the Automatic Door and the Roost Cam, we are able to turn a premium automated door using a light sensor into the only chicken coop door on the market that can be manually controlled with just one tap from the Coop App. Whether you're worried about a predator on the prowl, or want to coop your flock up for some bad weather, or maybe even just let a straggler hen back in at night, you've got the ability to do all of those things directly from the Coop App on your phone.

How are the Roost and Run Cams smart?

These aren't just your cheap no-name security cameras. These are incredibly high definition cameras that we have custom engineered behind the lens to become the market's first smart cameras trained for backyard chicken farming. With the help of Albert Eggstein, the Roost and Run Cams are able to provide smart event monitoring, remote recording, and interactive notifications in the event of, for example, a predator lurking around the run.

How to Set Up Your Smart Coop Cameras for the Best Experience

Welcome to Coop! Our Smart Coop cameras, powered by Eggstein AI, are designed to give you the best in flock protection through real-time monitoring and precision detection. To make sure you’re getting the most value from your cameras, this guide will walk you through the setup. Whether you’ve got a Smart Coop kit, standalone cameras, or pre-installed cameras, following these steps ensures your system works as it should—keeping your flock safe and your notifications accurate.

Step 1: Check Your WiFi Coverage

Let’s start with WiFi. Our cameras rely on a strong signal to deliver real-time alerts and monitor your coop 24/7. Testing the WiFi signal where your coop will be set up helps ensure smooth performance:

  • Use your phone or a speed test app to confirm that your WiFi signal reaches the coop area outside.
  • Once you’re confident the signal is strong, you’re ready for the next step.

Step 2: Pairing Indoors for Best Results

After confirming your WiFi coverage, bring your cameras indoors to pair them with the Coop app. Pairing works best when the cameras are close to your router. Once they’re successfully paired, you can move them back outside for installation.

Step 3: Charge Your Cameras for Long-Lasting Monitoring

Before mounting your cameras, make sure they’re charged to 100%. Here’s how to check:

  • Orange light: Charging
  • Green light: Fully charged

For continuous, reliable monitoring, it’s important that your cameras start fully charged. If you don’t see a light when charging, reach out to us for help.

Step 4: Naming and Mounting for Optimal Performance

The way you name and mount your cameras is key to getting the most accurate detection from Eggstein AI. Here's how to make sure your cameras are set up correctly, depending on whether you have a Smart Coop kit, standalone cameras, or pre-installed Smart Coop cameras.

For Smart Coop Kit and CoopCam Customers

The way you mount your cameras directly impacts their ability to monitor movement and detect potential threats. To get the best detection and avoid missing key activity:

  • Place your exterior camera at an angle that captures the full frame of the coop door and chicken movement.
  • Keep the camera level, avoiding steep downward angles.
  • Mount it no more than 8 feet off the ground and no more than 8 feet away from your coop perimeter. This positioning ensures that the AI can detect activity accurately without interference.
  • If you’re unsure about your setup, feel free to send us an email for personalized recommendations.

Naming

For kit and standalone setups, we recommend using the "Other" label in the app for your cameras. This lets the camera learn its environment and respond based on what it detects, rather than relying on a precision-trained model for a specific zone (like roost or run). This flexibility gives you the best overall performance as the camera adapts to your setup.

For Smart Coop Customers (Pre-Installed Cameras)

Your cameras come pre-installed in roost and run locations, so you won’t need to worry about mounting them. The key here is making sure they stay in the correct location after charging.

Naming

When using our Smart Coop with pre-installed cameras, it’s essential to name them correctly:

  • Name the interior camera "Roost" to focus on nighttime, inside-the-coop activity.
  • Name the exterior camera "Run" to monitor daytime outdoor activity and predator detection.
  • Important: If you bring the cameras inside for charging, double-check that you remount them in their correct locations afterward (roost inside, run outside). Swapping their positions by mistake will confuse the AI and cause inaccurate detections.

Step 5: Why Correct Naming and Placement Deliver the Best Value

Naming and placement may seem like small details, but they directly affect how Eggstein AI works for you. Our cameras use edge computing, which means they analyze activity in real time, right on the device. By setting up your cameras correctly, you’ll ensure that:

  • Accurate detections are delivered, focusing on the right areas and activities.
  • Battery life is optimized, avoiding unnecessary processing of irrelevant data.
  • False alerts are minimized, so you’re only notified about what matters most—your flock’s safety.

Think of it like setting up a smart security system for your home: a camera that’s trained to detect packages at the door won’t work as well if it’s looking for the wrong things. Correctly naming your cameras ensures they monitor exactly what they need to—whether it’s chickens resting inside or predators lurking outside.

Step 6: Additional Tips for Best Results

  1. DIY Coop Doors: If you’re using a custom coop door, don’t worry—our cameras can detect when the door opens and closes as long as it’s visible in the frame.
  2. Automatic Doors: If your coop has an automatic door, remember that it operates based on light sensitivity, not through the app. Our cameras will still detect door status, but they aren’t directly integrated with the door hardware.

Step 7: Troubleshooting and Support

If you need to change networks or transfer camera control to someone else, double-tap the power button to reset the camera into configuration mode. This will allow you to re-pair it without losing your settings if you re-pair with the same account.

If you’re using an Omlet door, please note that our cameras currently don’t detect the open/close status for these doors. For any questions about compatibility, feel free to email us at omlet@coop.farm.

Can I adjust how long the camera records when triggered by motion?

Currently, the CoopCam records in 10-second clips when triggered by motion. This setup balances capturing relevant activity while preserving battery life. The system buffers the 10 seconds before and after the motion, ensuring you get the most important part of the event quickly.

Some settings, like the “run” profile, allow for more continuous motion detection. Although clips are still recorded in 10-second intervals, they can be stitched together for a longer view of the activity.

An upcoming feature will allow video to be saved directly to a microSD card in the camera. This will enable you to download and playback longer continuous recordings directly from the app, offering a more flexible solution without draining battery life as quickly.

Stay tuned for this feature!

This fee averages between $15 and $20 right now, but as a Coop owner, your service fee will never be more than $5 flat. Please note that the Coop Marketplace is not live everywhere in the U.S., however this does not prevent

How do I pay for the monthly membership?

Order Processing and Fulfillment: What to Expect

Here’s a detailed guide to our order processing and fulfillment timelines, covering each step from when you place an order to when it ships with UPS Ground.

Order Processing Timeline

  • Processing Time: Orders are processed within 1-2 business days, though peak times (such as holiday seasons) may lead to slight delays. Our priority is to fulfill all orders quickly to ensure prompt shipping.

Multiple Shipments

  • Why Multiple Boxes? Larger products, such as the Smart Coop, ship in multiple boxes for safe and efficient delivery. Using multiple boxes helps prevent damage during transit and meets UPS size requirements for large or heavy items.
  • Tracking for Multiple Shipments: Each box in a multi-box shipment will have its own UPS Ground tracking number. You’ll receive all tracking details in your shipping confirmation email, allowing you to monitor the location and estimated delivery of each box.

Order Adjustments or Cancellations

  • We process orders quickly, so it may not be possible to alter shipping details or cancel once an order is submitted. If you need assistance, contact us as soon as possible at help@coop.farm. We will try to accommodate if the order has not yet shipped.
